“Designer” Sites for Online Dropshipping

catwalk

Many online businesspeople see themselves-at least during their working hours-as being somehow in service to their store. They have to do whatever they can in order to see that their store succeeds.

This is entirely the wrong approach. Rather, you should think of a website as a tool to market yourself. As soon as customers come to visit it, they should see that your online store is just as unique and exciting as you are. In other words, put some of your uniqueness into the store, instead of trying to shoehorn (and therefore limit) your thought process into a template. There is no such thing as the one “best” type of online store. Being the best store is not a competition to determine who can come closest to a single, predetermined ideal. Think couture, not ready-to-wear. Great online dropshipping sites are “designer” creations in the sense of being one-of-a-kind.

In other words, always remember that you own your store, and that your store does not own you. You should tailor the store to suit your own needs, convenience and business philosophy. Learn to understand yourself as a businessperson, and design your store to reflect that understanding. Think of your store as a coherent entity, built for your service and profit.

Try to understand what makes your business different from that of your competitors. Are you unique because of your prices, sales or bonus accessories? Do you cater to a certain niche market that most other owners of online stores ignore? Find out what makes you unique as a businessperson, and design your site so that visitors can see these distinguishing features as soon as they enter your online space.

Also, do not be afraid to blow your own horn. Be confident (which is not the same as arrogant). Tell your customers exactly why you are a better option than other online sellers of similar products. Being self-effacing can be a good thing in your personal relations with others, but excessive modesty in business dealings can be downright detrimental-to both you and your customers. You will not be able to net the business you deserve, and they will miss an opportunity to seal a good deal with you.

It is simply good business sense to design your store so that it makes a strong, favorable, unforgettable impression. Simply having good deals is not enough. Your entire site design should serve to build up your image. Remember, the site is your creation, and you are not the slave of your business. Take ownership of your site, and stand out above the rest.
