Okay, it’s doubtful that you can make your ecommerce drop ship business 100% recession proof. If somebody came up with a proven formula of success for that, they’d be the next internet millionaire.
But, while you can’t completely avoid dealing with the effects of the current economic situation, there are things you can do to be more proactive in dealing with the dire consequences of this recession.
There are three main things that can help you recession proof your online business:
- Analytics
- SEO
- Usability
ANALYTICS:
Forrester Research released a report in the summer of 2008 that said a company that uses a professional analyst might expect to see an increase in ROI (Return On Investment) between 900%-1200%.
Wowza!
That sounds like a huge amount of improvement, but a trained, professional analyst will almost certainly pick up on things that you are missing. Things such as a too lengthy checkout process, or content that isn’t targeted properly, resulting in lots of traffic but very poor conversion and low sales.
It will cost you a bit of cash, but this is an example of spending money to make money. If you have a low conversion rate in your dropship business, think how much you would gain in increased sales due to the findings of a trained analyst.
USABILITY:
Internet marketing research shows that you can improve the metrics of your website 83% just by improving your usability.
Just by getting rid of some obstacles that may be blocking shoppers from buying from you due to poor website usability could boost your sales enormously!
There are tools and even free programs available to help you find and fix usability issues with your website.
SEO:
SEO is tricky, even for trained professionals who specialize in Search Engine Optimization. It can be difficult to gauge exactly how effective your SEO is on your website.
However, chances are that unless you’re an absolute SEO guru—yours could stand to be spruced up a bit.
Be sure to stay abreast of current trends with the major search engines such as Google, so that you don’t end up out of the loop or behind the times.
These three simple things won’t totally protect your ecommerce dropshipping business from the fallout of the recession, but they’ll help a lot!
